About

Hey there
I'm Jared, I made this website as a way for people just like you to get to know me a little better.
I write about things I'm fascinated by, projects I'm working on, or things I've learned from brilliant people I've met along the way.
Here's a list of things I'm currently Obsessed with:
- Connecting with Interesting People in Non-Traditional Ways
- Finding the best cold plunges, saunas, and bath houses
- Hiking Extremely Tall Mountains
- Coffee (I'm a coffee snob)
- House Music
- Hot Yoga
- Skiing
- Hyrox
Here's a list of things about me so you can get to know me a little better...
- I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio
- My parents got divorced when I was 11 and that left my family in a tough financial position
- I grew up going to two major schools: Kenston (K-5) and Beachwood (5-12)
- My first job was delivering local newspapers at 13 years old
- Next up was at 16, making sandwiches at Panera Bread until I graduated high school. All of this was so I could pay for gas for my car, and afford sports equipment
- The majority of my athletic career was playing soccer or lacrosse
- I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 15.5. My blood sugar was 669 and I was in DKA. I probably had a few days left until I fell into a coma, if it wasn't caught. I had to learn, manage, and control all of this on my own.
- After high school, I wanted to go to college to become a doctor. I wanted to make a good living and help people. This seemed like a good path to fulfill that intention. So I studied biomedical engineering so it would look good on med school applications
- I got zero financial help for college, I had to pay for it all on my own. So I stayed in state and found a handful of scholarships that helped me get through school.
- I attended Ohio State University (I don't use the "the")
- 2.5 years through college, I realized I did not want to be a doctor. I did not want to endure another 8 years of brutal financial and academic pain to make >$250k/yr. That seemed like a lot then.
- I wanted to help people and make money doing that. There had to be other ways to do that than just becoming a physician. I pivoted my academic career. I added a business minor (entrepreneurship) and stayed for a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Some other college highlights: I trained with the men's and women's varsity soccer teams. Some of the players I trained with play professionally now. MLS, NWSL, USWNT. I did research in sports and injury biomechanics. Ranging from soccer mechanics, 3D motion tracking, all the way to improving car crash safety.
- My first job out of college was as a design engineer at a small med device/consumer goods product design agency. I got laid off after being there for 11 months. To this day, what seemed like an incredibly large setback at the time (I cried a little), may have been the best thing to have ever happened to me.
- The girl I was dating at the time got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and got put on a continuous glucose monitor. That's what convinced me to try one out. I'm glad I did…
- Job #2 took me to San Diego, CA where I joined Dexcom as an engineer. They make continuous glucose monitors (CGMs). I helped design, launch, and scale their flagship products. The Dexcom G6 and G7.
- I switched to product management at Dexcom so I could learn how products are built and understand how businesses are built within a company…
- Then I got obsessed with business.
- I started DJing once I moved to CA. I got really good at it. I've played for crowds of hundreds of people and opened up for some big time DJs.
- I started a media company where I did I did landscape photography, professional headshots, and live music photo & video work (for some big time DJs).
- Funny enough, after someone moves to San Diego, you'd think "that's great, what else can you want?" Moving to California opened my eyes to a lot of things a kid from Ohio never would have really thought was possible in their lifetime.
- After a while, I recognized I got too comfortable, and I wanted to be around big thinkers… I wanted some jet fuel in my engine. San Diego was full of chillers, and I needed to be around some killers. I did the complete opposite of what someone comfortable in San Diego would do; I decided to move to San Francisco.
- In February 2024 I started a holistic health coaching company my one of my friends, called Paragon Health. I decided it wasn't the right fit for what I wanted to do so we decided to shut it down before raising any outside capital.
- In the summer of 2024 I started becoming obsessed with growth tactics. I started 3 faceless TikTok accounts and grew one of them to over 1.5M views.
- For the first 6 months of living in San Francisco, I was jumping in the bay to cold plunge with my friends and meet new people. Come June the water wasn't cold anymore so I wanted to find a way to throw a cold plunge party with water that was actually cold. I threw my first "cold plunge party" in August 2024, that grew into Plunge Party, a health an wellness social club bringing together incredible people from all over the Bay Area twice a month.
- Plunge party turned into one of San Francisco's largest social wellness clubs. After 12 months and a lot of growth I shut it down due to growth limitations.
- In 2025 I went all in on media and content around health to share what I've learned from having T1D to end the metabolic health crisis. I built an app and even did metabolic health coaching. I stopped doing that because I saw a lot of issues relying on glucose monitors for my business model and struggled to find PMF.
And that my friend, that is where you find me now...
(One more thing...)
If you want to follow along... to see what it's like to leave my job and figure out how to build a business. I write a blog to share what it's like and some good stories from along the way. If you made it this far, I'm positive you'll love it.
Alright, that's it for now. (but enter your email)
